All Black Kings Go To Heaven Documentary

Hey folks NEED YOU to SUPPORT my good friend Ricky Day as he launches his new project " All Black Kings Go To Heaven" below is more info on it and how you can help. Thanks a bunch guys...

What if those ads you see for American lifestyle apparel brands were more diverse? What if you could see young men of color in a setting other sports, music and the evening news?

My name is Ricky Day. I'm a New York based visual artist and photographer. I believe that self is a performance and that notions of self are developed in direct relationship to the images and information provided to us via the media, religion & our respective peer groups and families. I am interested in exploring & examining the power of fine art & pop-culture to inform the development & performance of self while demonstrating the transformative power of change.
In my portrait series All Black Kings Go To Heaven (ABKGTH), I use a commercial fashion inspired photographic portrait style & mock ad campaign to examine the objectification of the black male & its effects on the performance of self as well as to celebrate the beauty, humanity & strength of men of African descent. This series incorporates still photography, works on paper, video and paintings.
Your support will help me to create a body of work that looks and feels like advertising campaigns for major brands, but with an important twist, men of color and their dreams and aspirations will be it's subject.

We need your financial support to help make this project a reality

The project consists of large scale photographic portrait prints that look and feel like advertisments and in-store display images, a video, and a pop-up exhibit! Your generous donations will assist me in creating a body of work that will enrich lives and changes perceptions.
Your support for the project will be rewarded with unique perks that include personal thank you's on the project website, limited edition prints, promotional items and even sitting  for a professional photoshoot with yours truly!
If we don't reach our entire fundraising goal, this project WILL be completed and exhibited. It simply means it will be scaled back a bit in terms of it's scope! We are committed to creating and sharing this work with the world.

The Impact

Your contribution will make a difference in several ways:
  • You will help me to change our collective conditioning and to alter the perception of young men of color in a way that empowers them to live up to their full potential and inspires the rest of us to focus on what we have in common as opposed to our differences.
  • You will help me to create works of art that reveal beautiful truths about who we are as human beings
  • You will help me to provide a wonderful new perspective from which to view young men of color.

Other Ways You Can Help

Not everyone can contribute, but that doesn’t mean you can’t help:
Remember Indiegogo has some pretty powerful share tools! Use these to spread the word to your family, friends, co-workers and to attract others who'd like to support the project! Help me to make a difference in our collective lives by empowering and celebrating our youth.
Thank you.
Ricky Day
