Am happy to announce that we will be covering this year's Urban World Film Festival here in NYC next weekend.
The Urbanworld® Film Festival is the largest internationally competitive festival of its kind. The five-day festival includes narrative features, documentaries, and short films, as well as panel discussions, live staged screenplay readings, and the Urbanworld® Digital track focused on digital and social media. Over the last fifteen years, Hollywood studios, indie film distributors, and established and emerging filmmakers have consistently chosen Urbanworld® to premiere box office and award-winning hits. Urbanworld® has also provided a platform for some of today’s leading brands seeking to reach key influencers across the industry and within the consumer marketplace. The Line Up for this year festival kicks off Next Thursday Sept 19 with the premiere of Baggage Claim which stars Paula Patton, Adam Brody, Trey Songz, Derek Luke, Taye Diggs, Jill Scott, LaLa Anthony, Tia Mowry - directed by David E. Talbert - a flight attendant embarks on a thirty-day, thirty-thousand-mile expedition to "accidentally" meet and charm a potential suitor into becoming her fiancé.

Determined to get engaged before her youngest sister's wedding, flight attendant Montana Moore (Paula Patton) finds herself with only 30 days to find Mr. Right. Using her airline connections to "accidentally" meet up with eligible ex-boyfriends and scour for potential candidates, she racks up more than 30,000 miles and countless comedic encounters, all the while searching for the perfect guy. On Friday we have two highlights of the festival
Gun Hill which is 84 mins long stars Larenz Tate stars as Bird and Trane, identical twins on opposite sides of the law. Bird is an undercover agent with a secret task force. Trane is a recently released convict who plays by a different set of rules. When Bird is brutally murdered, Trane assumes his brother’s identity in hopes of finding the killer, and gaining a second chance at life. Grappling with morality, fatherhood and love, Gun Hill asks this question: Can someone who is unredeemable become redeemed?
They Die By Dawn
THEY DIE BY DAWN is a film based on the true life African American Cowboys of the old west. With an all star cast including Giancarlo Esposito, Michael K Williams, Nate Parker, Jesse Williams, Rosario Dawson, Isaiah Washington, Erykah Badu, Bokeem Woodbine and Harry Lennix, the film sets out to tell the story of a showdown between the real life characters.
Nat Love (aka Deadwood Dick), Ben Hodges, Bill Pickett, Jim Beckwourth, Isom Dart, Bose Ickard, the outlaw Rufus Buck and Sheriff Bass Reeves were all famous and infamous cowboys whilst the strong and powerful Stagecoach Mary bore little resemblance to Calamity Jane.
On Saturday evening the highlight of the festival is the premiere of episode 3 of season 4 of Broadway Empire
Boardwalk Empire chronicles the life and times of Enoch “Nucky” Thompson, Atlantic City’s undisputed czar at a time when Prohibition proved to be a major catalyst in the rise of organized crime in America. Season 4 picks up eight months after the end of Season 3, in February 1924 – the year jazz “really came into being,” with fictional dancers/singers as well as the ubiquitous Charleston dance. Having barely survived an overthrow by Gyp Rossetti in Season 3, Nucky Thompson is laying low at the end of the Boardwalk as the season begins.
Sunday the festival ends with the premiere of The Inevitable defeat of Mister and Pete
Coming of age story about two inner city youths, who are left to fend for themselves over the summer after their mothers are taken away by the authorities. The movie stars AYCnthony Mackie, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Jennifer Hudson, Jordin Sparks and Jeffrey Wright
