NEW YORK, NY – June 25, 2012: From independent, gay filmmaker Patrik-Ian Polk (Punks and Noah’s Arc) comes The Skinny, a sexually-charged, and wildly steamy, coming-of-age dramedy about five young gay friends who reunite at New York’s Pride Week. The film makes its world television premiere on Sunday, July 8 at 10 PM ET/PT on Logo.
Centered on a group of recent Brown graduates who come together for New York Pride Week, the film explores the intersection of sex, promiscuity, monogamy, drugs, HIV and love in each of their lives – taking on the complex issues that face all races in the gay community.
The film stars Jussie Smolett (the former child actor of “Mighty Ducks” & “North”), Blake Young-Fountain, Anthony Burrell, Shanika Warren-Markland and Jeffrey Bowyer-Chapman. Supporting cast includes alumni of Polk’s hit projects: Darryl Stephens (“Noah’s Arc”), Jennia Fredrique (“Noah’s Arc”), Wilson Cruz (“Noah’s Arc”) and Seth Gilliam (Punks). Also, the film introduces newcomer Dustin Ross and marks the feature film debut of internet sensation B. Scott.
Opening at Outfest Fusion, Polk was awarded the coveted 2012 “Fusion Achievement Award” which recognizes LGBT people of color in film.
