The latest in Spike Lee's Chronicles of Brooklyn anthology--which also includes "She's Gotta Have It" (1986), "Do The Right Thing" (1989), "Crooklyn" (1994), "Clockers" (1995), and "He Got Game" (1998)--RED HOOK SUMMER tells the story of Flik Royale (Jules Brown), a sullen young boy from middle-class Atlanta who has come to spend the summer with his deeply religious grandfather, Bishop Enoch Rouse (Clarke Peters), in the housing projects of Red Hook. Having never met before, things quickly get off on the wrong foot as Bishop Enoch relentlessly attempts to convert Flik into a follower of Jesus Christ. Between his grandfather's constant preaching and the culture shock of inner-city life, Flik's summer appears to be a total disaster--until he meets Chazz Morningstar (Toni Lysaith), a pretty girl his age, who shows Flik the brighter side of Brooklyn. Through her love and the love of his grandfather, Flik begins to realize that the world is a lot bigger, and perhaps a lot better, than he'd ever imagined.

PATRIK-IAN POLK’S "THE SKINNY" WORLD TELEVISION PREMIERE ON LOGO JULY 8 at 10pm
NEW YORK, NY – June 25, 2012: From independent, gay filmmaker Patrik-Ian Polk (Punks and Noah’s Arc) comes The Skinny, a sexually-charged, and wildly steamy, coming-of-age dramedy about five young gay friends who reunite at New York’s Pride Week. The film makes its world television premiere on Sunday, July 8 at 10 PM ET/PT on Logo.
Centered on a group of recent Brown graduates who come together for New York Pride Week, the film explores the intersection of sex, promiscuity, monogamy, drugs, HIV and love in each of their lives – taking on the complex issues that face all races in the gay community.
The film stars Jussie Smolett (the former child actor of “Mighty Ducks” & “North”), Blake Young-Fountain, Anthony Burrell, Shanika Warren-Markland and Jeffrey Bowyer-Chapman. Supporting cast includes alumni of Polk’s hit projects: Darryl Stephens (“Noah’s Arc”), Jennia Fredrique (“Noah’s Arc”), Wilson Cruz (“Noah’s Arc”) and Seth Gilliam (Punks). Also, the film introduces newcomer Dustin Ross and marks the feature film debut of internet sensation B. Scott.
Opening at Outfest Fusion, Polk was awarded the coveted 2012 “Fusion Achievement Award” which recognizes LGBT people of color in film.

Xem Says: We, as a society at large continue to use the terms 'KWEEN' and 'GAY' interchangeably as it concerns the identity and existence of homosexual boys, teenagers and adult men. Not only does the mainstream public place these derogatory terms upon the shoulders of Gay men, but many Gay men themselves continue to embrace the thoughts, ideas and stereotypes that are associated with such 'Titles'. A Kween, as far as Im concerned, isn't race, class, or gender specific. A Kween exists in many facets of society and can filter in and out of various social circles. A Kween does NOT define the presence of effiminate or flamboyant gays. One should not be labeled a kween simply because they speak, dress, behave or carry themselves according to certain spoken and unspoken standards of normalcy. It's an interpreted concept.
