Janet Jackson Covers Gotham Magazine
Janet Jackson covers the new issue of Gotham, and she speaks on New York, her new book, her new album, her New Year’s resolutions and, of course, Michael’s death.
On what she’s taken from Michael’s death:“When you hear people say life goes on, it’s really the truth. You can’t stop living. It becomes a part of you. I feel a bit selfish because there are times I feel I shouldn’t be doing this, but I enjoy my work and I have to keep doing it. I have to keep my life going. There are days that are harder than others.”
On her New Year’s resolutions:“I want to learn a language. I haven’t decided which, but it’s between French, Spanish and Italian. I also want to get closer to God.”
On her new album:“It’s going to be a little different. The writing is about life experiences. There’s a part of me that’s craving escapism, which is a sense of wanting to keep on moving with my work but also of coming to terms with reality. So I think it will be upbeat and light.”
On her new book:“I hope it’s inspiring for all ages. I’m talking about weight loss, confidence, self-esteem—especially in your youth. It’s not an autobiography, but there are little anecdotes that I give here and there from my childhood all the way to the present that I thought would be interesting and helpful to share.”
On what she loves about New York:“Everything. I love the energy–the creative energy. I’ve been here for 12 years and I will be here for the rest of my life.”

Obama, Bush, Clinton stand 'united' for Haiti
Former preidents William Clinton & George H. Bush joined President Obama as a united front to help combat the devastation in Haiti after the earthquake.
"By coming together in this way, these two leaders send an unmistakable message to the people of Haiti and to the people of the world," Obama said in the Rose Garden, flanked by the two former leaders.
"In these difficult hours, America stands united. We stand united with the people of Haiti who have shown such incredible resilience, and we will help them to recover and to rebuild."
The United States was launching "one of the largest relief efforts in our history" to bring aid to Haiti following Tuesday's devastating 7.0-magnitude earthquake that struck the heart of the poorest nation in the Americas.
Bush, who congratulated Obama for his "swift and timely response to the disaster," said he was pleased to work with Clinton "to mobilize the compassion of the American people."
The challenges in Haiti "are immense, but there's a lot of devoted people leading the relief effort," he said.
"The most effective way for Americans to help the people of Haiti is to contribute money. That money will go to organizations on the ground who will be able to effectively spend it.
"I know a lot of people want to send blankets or water. Just send your cash," added Bush.
Clinton, the United Nations special envoy for Haiti, said the priority for now to ship food, medicine and water to Haiti.
"But when we start the rebuilding effort... we want there to be a place where people can know their money will be well spent, where we will ensure the ongoing integrity of the process. And we want to stay with this over the long run," he said.

Bishop Alfred Owens Homophobic Rant at Mount Calvary Church in DC
I have alot of associates who are gay and out and attend Mount Calvary Baptist Church here in DC and for the life of me i still cant til this day understand why they choose to attend a church where the pastor Bishop Alfred Owens is so homophobic and says ass backward crap that comes out of his mouth from the pulpit in regards to the gay community and the gays that attend that church continue to fellowship and praise Owens as if he is doing the right thing. Wrong is wrong and someone in that church needs to stand up to him. As many openly gay people attend that church and is actively involved in the church how can Bishop Owens not know he has gay members in his church?? Below is what local dc resident Jon Mack had to say about his expierence while attending this church on Jan 3, 2010.
Jon Mack and his partner, Michael Garrett tells DC Agenda "they were startled and deeply hurt when Bishop Alfred Owens, the church pastor, appeared to be sending them and other same-sex couples a blunt message Jan. 3." “Sex is only pleasing to God in the marriage bed, and the marriage bed is a man and … a woman!” Owens shouted from the pulpit, with hundreds in the church pews shouting their approval, according to accounts by Mack and Garrett. “If marriage wasn’t between a man and a woman, you wouldn’t be here because two men doing it don’t produce no kids,” Owens said. “And two women doing it don’t produce no kids! It’s all about family,” he said as members of the congregation continued to clap and cheer. “During this homophobic rant, me and my partner got up and walked out,” said Mack, 28.“What hurt me more than what he said is how the congregation yelled and agreed with him,” Mack said. “It showed me that people that don’t even know me hate me just because of my sexuality.” Garrett said his initial reaction upon hearing Owens’ hostile references to gays in the Jan. 3 sermon was to blame himself for continuing to attend Greater Mount Calvary services, despite the reports from friends and acquaintances that Owens is hostile to gays. “Since going there for the past year, I never heard anything out of the way like that,” Garrett said. “So a lot of it was inspirational up until that point. And it kind of took me aback. … And then due to the fact that Jon and I are together and we’re going to see about getting married in D.C., it really was like, ‘Why am I supporting this person? How come I couldn’t see this beforehand?’”

"Ink Not Mink" New PETA Campaign
"Ink Not Mink": a new campaign for PETA. PETA on Arenas: His sizzling moves have earned him nicknames such as "Agent Zero" and "Hibachi," a Japanese word that means "bowl of fire." Gilbert's a fierce competitor on the court, but it's his compassion toward animals off the court that makes him a true all-star.
Also check out Phoenix Suns Amar'e Stoudemire's striking photos for "Ink Not Mink" makes a slam-dunk for animals by boycotting fur and posing for PETA's "Ink, Not Mink" campaign. This former NBA Rookie of the Year got involved with PETA in order to raise awareness of cruelty to animals and is baring his skin to help animals keep theirs. Amar'e explains, "I wouldn't want to see anything cruel happen to any animals just for fashion." Animals used in the fur industry often suffer gruesome deaths. To avoid damaging the animals' pelts, workers frequently electrocute and poison these furry creatures and peel their skin off while the animals are still alive. Be like Amar'e by refusing to contribute to animal suffering: Do not buy or wear fur! Find out what else Amar'e has to say about animal rights, and listen to him speak about his own experiences with animals.
Former NBA Bad Boy Dennis Rodman apart of the new PETA Campaign. Rodman unveil his provocative new PETA ad in the very tents where designers are pushing fur. In PETA’s ad, Rodman appears nude—except for his tattoos—alongside the caption, “Think Ink, Not Mink,” and urges: “Be comfortable in your own skin and let animals keep theirs.”Rodman is the first man—and the first sports star—to pose for PETA’s “Rather Go Naked Than Wear Fur” series, which has featured Pamela Anderson, Kim Basinger, and Christy Turlington. When the 6’8” basketball legend, whose own “Dennis Rodman Foundation” helps the homeless, heard about PETA’s program that donates thousands of castoff fur coats to homeless shelters across the country, he instantly agreed to pose for the cause, explaining that furriers have pushed free furs on him over the years and he’s always refused to take them—he only wears fake fur.
Wizards Gilbert Arenas Suspended Indefinitely
Washington Wizards player Gilbert Arenas was suspended indefinitely yesterday by the NBA without pay for bringing 4 unloaded guns to the locker room of the verizon center where the wizards play on Dec 21. Ever since the story broke on christmas eve gilbert has shown no remorse for bringing the guns into DC which is a felony. NBA commissioner David Stern has indefinitely suspended Gilbert Arenas, saying the Washington Wizards guard is”not currently fit to take the court” for a game.
The news comes after Gilbert Arenas and Javaris Crittenton–both players on the Washington Wizards– reportedly drew guns on each other during a locker-room argument over a gambling debt. Players’ union executive director Billy Hunter called the matter “unprecedented in the history of sports.” Arenas, in the second season of a six-year, $111 million contract, was suspended for Washington’s season opener in 2004 because he failed to maintain proper registration of a handgun while living in California in 2003. Arenas also turned 28 yesterday.
NBA Commissioner David Stern said in a statement that while Arenas would likely face a long suspension (possibly as long as the remainder of the 2009-10 season), "his ongoing conduct has led me to conclude that he is not currently fit to take the court in an NBA game." By nearly all accounts, the final straw for Stern was when Arenas' teammates surrounded him during pregame introductions and he pretended to shoot them with guns made from his fingers. The Wizards issued a statement of their own condemning Arenas' behavior.
