Luke Campbell Vows Change After Deadly Liberty City Massacre
The Miami/Liberty City Hip-Hop community remains in shock following a Friday night shooting spree that's left 2 teenagers dead and 7 people wounded. Miami authorities are continuing a search for at least one masked man who used an AK-47 assault rifle on bystanders at a Liberty City grocery store on January 23. Eyewitness reports state the masked man broke up a craps game while over 50 people watched and forced the victims to the ground before opening fire. According to the Miami police department, 6 of the 9 victims were current or former students at Northwestern High School. Brandon Mills, 16, and Derrick Gloster, 18 died from their gunshot wounds.
Former 2 Live Crew member and rapper/entrepreneur "Uncle" Luke Campbell expressed his grief over the shootings. The former Liberty City resident, who continues to give back to the community as coach of the nationally acclaimed Liberty City Warriors youth football team, was shocked at the carnage.
“More people died [on that day] in the city of Miami then in Iraq,” Campbell told AllHipHop.com. “The sad thing is they are kids. This needs to stop an we know how to stop it.”
A local resident detailed the horrifying scene to local station WSVN. "It was like a war zone. I witnessed this guy laying there with his face, looked like it was completely tore off," Joan Rutherford disclosed to WSVN. "His eyes [were] all I could see, and he had a grip on some money and gasping and trying to lift his head to say something." One victim remains in critical condition and underwent emergency surgery yesterday (January 24). At press time, Miami officials have issued a "plea of information" for community help to bring the gunman to justice. There has been no announced motive or suspect in the shooting.“To fight war you have to fight on the front lines,” Campbell told AllHipHop.com. “Some time this week I will make a change in my life to help others. I will let you no what my plan is on Thursday.”

Get To Know Us First:Gay Marriage PSA
A new round of public service announcements created by gettoknowusfirst.org currently running in urban and rural markets in California in the wake of the passage of Proposition 8.The ads ran on broadcast and cable channels during the Presidential Inauguration and will continue through the spring.
The No on 8 Campaign was heavily criticized during the aftermath of Prop 8 for not reaching out to communities of color and f particularly for not showing actual gay and lesbian couples in their television ads. The black gay couple who also has a rather large family is shown playing basketball with their kids, praying before enjoying dinner, and helping their daughter with her homework. They also speak about meeting for the first time in church and realizing they were destined to be together.
On tuesday one of the ads ran in 42 of the state's 56 counties before, during and after the Inauguration telecast but KABC TV in Glendale, California refused to run the ad. According to a press release from the organization, KABC deemed it "too controversial" to run during the Inauguration, as "many families will be watching".

Given security concerns, the US Secret Service stresses that all information is subject to change. Additional information and maps detailing street closings and pedestrian checkpoints will be available through the DC government's website, http://dwntwn.convio.net/site/R?i=zbgIrhJOdR6YxWsdtFsnlQ.., or from the US Secret Service at http://dwntwn.convio.net/site/R?i=d7bNHj3HHwXVwg2tpfI68A...
The Restaurant Association Metropolitan Washington is telling members that the Secret Service can cut off access to the Inaugural ceremonies at any time that day if it feels safety will be compromised by a crush of people. In addition, cell phones might not work due to an expected cell phone traffic gridlock.
Local businesses can also expect, and plan for, delays in deliveries. Weeks ago, the Hotel Association of Washington, DC, notified members within the Inaugural security area to have food delivered by Sunday, January 18. Some streets along and near Pennsylvania Avenue will be closed on Monday, January 19. Several hotels already have made plans to bring in extra freezers to store food. Employees may need to start their commutes earlier than normal to beat the crowds and clear security checkpoints. At this time, the Secret Service plans to close the buffer area along the Inaugural Parade route to all pedestrian and vehicular traffic—including delivery trucks—from 5:00 am to 8:00 am on January 20.
In consideration of public safety, the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) says property managers must suspend all non-emergency work in the streets and on sidewalks within the Inaugural boundary. This means all construction materials, including but not limited to equipment and tools—such as traffic signs, cones and barrels—materials, debris and hazardous materials, should be removed safely by 2:00 pm on Friday, January 16, through 7:00 am on Wednesday, January 21. Questions can be directed to the Public Space Management Branch at 202.442.4670.
Security Measures for Residents Residents who live within the secure area will be required to show a DC Driver's License that displays their address when entering at vehicular checkpoints.
The Secret Service will have counter snipers positioned on rooftops throughout the area. Residents planning rooftop Inauguration Day parties should contact their property managers and be prepared to provide the names and Social Security numbers of all who plan to attend.
Transit SchedulesTraveling to and around Downtown on Inauguration Day, January 20, will be a challenge, to say the least. Downtown workers can expect to encounter massive crowds and long delays and should avoid driving. The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) says Metrorail riders can expect to wait more than 30 minutes to board a train after the parade, when most people will leave the downtown area.
Metrobus service will operate on a “modified” Saturday schedule from 4:00 am to 9:00 pm. Expect some detours because of street closures around the National Mall, Pennsylvania Avenue and near the US Capitol. Riders should check Metro’s website, http://dwntwn.convio.net/site/R?i=VNSBVkjJ1nCiacFYzIQwTg.., to see whether bus routes will be diverted because of last-minute street closures. However, the best transportation option may be your feet. Metro is advising people who live within two to three miles of the Mall to walk.
WMATA will extend Metrorail service hours from 4:00 am on Tuesday, January 20, to 2:00 am on Wednesday, January 21, to accommodate people traveling to the swearing-in, parade and Inaugural balls. This schedule is a one-time privilege only. The transit authority will run regular service throughout the Inaugural festivities, closing at midnight on weekdays and 3:00 am on Friday and Saturday. However, in light of the huge crowds, it will also run unprecedented rush-hour service for 17 consecutive hours on Inauguration Day, from 4:00 am until 9:00 pm. Expect to pay rush-hour fares.
Speaking of fares, WMATA is offering commemorative fare cards that feature President-elect Barack Obama’s photo. The special One-Day Pass is available online for $10 and at Metro sales offices and fare vending machines for $7.80. The cost of the paper passes, which offer unlimited rides, will be $10 at all sales locations on Inauguration Day. Metro is encouraging local residents to purchase them in advance to save money and avoid long lines later. The commemorative SmarTrip cards can also be purchased in advance for $10 each without fare value, or for $20, which includes a $10 fare value loaded onto the card. They work just like the regular SmartTrip cards; they do not offer special fare discounts or unlimited rides. For more information on the commemorative fare cards, visit http://dwntwn.convio.net/site/R?i=8YEqqBXRu4BCyvb_ExGatw...

Riots & Protest over deadly BART SHOOTINGS in Oakland
Riots broke out in Oakland, California last night following a peaceful protest over the senseless shooting of a black man by a white Bay Area police officer.
The officer, Johannes Mehserle, 27, quit the force yesterday rather than face questioning by the police internal review board investigating his shooting of 22-year-old Oscar Grant.
Routinely, police officers are required to face the board following incidents where deadly force is used. Mehserle’s attorney had asked the review board to postpone the questioning for a week but the board refused and scheduled the meeting for yesterday. Mehserle’s attorney and a union rep showed up without him and presented his resignation. The resignation was accepted and became effective immediately.
Here’s the problem: accidental shootings of blacks by police are rarely ever charged. The officer has not been arrested nor has he commented on the shooting which occurred in front of witnesses. By turning in his resignation he is not even required to give a statement.
Instead, he has been moved several times for his protection due to death threats.
It certainly doesn’t help the situation in Oakland to hear police investigators shrug off cell phone videos which clearly show Mehserle standing over the prone Grant and firing his service weapon into his back at close range.
Instead of swift justice, the police investigators offer excuses. The videos are grainy, they say. There are other mitigating factors to consider, they say.
The bullet from Mehserle’s sidearm passed through Grant’s body striking the concrete beneath him and ricocheting back into his upper torso, collapsing a lung. He died later at a local hospital. Grant leaves behind a 4-year-old daughter, a grieving family and a torn city left to wonder why.

Man Who Beat Celebrity Trainer Commits Suicide
Apollo Holmes, 25, took his own life at his home on Christmas Day because he was despondent over being wrongly accused said his attorney, Bruce Harvey
.
At least 10 thugs set upon Miller in the parking of a midtown nightclub as he walked Mayor Shirley Franklin’s two daughters to their car on Dec. 26, 2007 (LINK).
Miller had asked the men to stop videotaping the women.
The brutal beating left Miller in a coma that he has yet to recover from. Miller receives round-the-clock care at his mother’s home after being discharged from a rehab facility. His complex medical care is paid for partly by donations from friends, celebrity clients and money raised through fundraising events.
Holmes was the only man charged in the beating.
