Introducing Bry'Nt
I first heard of Bry'Nt when he performed here in DC at 2008 DC Black Pride and was very intrigued. This young man is very talented and he is among an emerging group of young LGBT rappers coming up in the game and trying to make a name for themselves. His 6 track mixtape can be heard on his Official Myspace page www.myspace.com/bryntmusic from start to finish each track is hott. So with out further ado i would like to introduce you to Bry'Nt the gay rapper out of New York
What made u start rapping?
The beginning of my interest in rapping comes from a life full of difficult and twisted situations in my teenage years and even in my adult life where I kept a lot to myself. For the majority of the time, my rhymes are a reflection of what's been going on in my head; thoughts, feelings, ideas, and perceptions.
What are some of your successes?
I released my first mixtape as a solo artist entitled "Porn Star" May 27th, 2008, which will have a FREE online release real soon. Since then I've been on a Pride tour performing at Pride events in cities like Washington D.C., Springfield, Detroit, New York City, and a few others and more to come. I also have a song on the soundtrack of the independent film "Finding Me" and a few songs some other mixtapes.
What does the future hold for Bry'Nt?
The future holds many more performances. A new mixtape in the winter and an album next summer. I will also be seen in celebrity photographer, Francois Rousseau's "Les Atelier Project" which is a photography exhibit that I posed artistically nude for (no, you can't see my dick! *LOL*). That will be coming out in February of 2009 at the European House Of Photograpy in Paris, France.
Who did you look up too growing up for inspiration?
The people that inspired me growing up were all of the artists from the late 90's East Coast movement (i.e. Mary J. Blige, Jay-Z, Junior M.A.F.I.A., Nas, The Notorious B.I.G., etc.).
Is there a rapper out now or the past that people compare you to?
Lil' Kim! *LOL* Kim was one of the people I thought was hot growing up so it's okay. But people love to compare me to her because of the hyper sexual lyrical content.
Who is Bry'Nt when your not rapping? What you like to do?
Bry'Nt is just a cool dude, very humorous! I like to go to the beach, exercise, go to amusement parks, go to concerts, eat sushi, and sleep! I love to sleep! That’s just a few things I like to do.
What is your goal in the hip-hop industry?
My ultimate goal in the hip-hop industry is to be one of the best that ever did it. Nothing more, nothing less.
Where do you see yourself in five years?
I see myself still working hard but with a greater following of fans.
Do you have any regrets working in this business?
One think I regret is working with certain individuals (who shall remain nameless) who worked with me in fear of having people know that they helped a "gay rap artist".
Is there anything else you want people to know about you?
I want people to know that my lyrics are all a reflection of a deviant lifestyle that I live but that my heart is still pure and I work hard everyday to be a better person.
The original name for the mixtape was "Rap's Tiger Tyson" and Tiger wasn't having it! *LOL* So I opted to change it to "Porn Star" because I felt my position in music is similar to an adult actor's position in film. As a sexually liberal society, we consume billions of dollars worth of pornographic material every year. Nonetheless, there is a negative stigma attached to those who regularly view pornographic movies. Therefore we watch them in solitude (some of us in groups *LOL*) and with shame and fear of having others know that we do. And I've learned through many observations that there are many people that secretly are fans of mine, however, they only listen to my music in private and with shame and in fear of having others know they enjoy it. Especially members of the straight community. There's the answer for those who've been wondering, I know I've said a lot! I don't knock the hustle of actual porn stars but I've never been one myself nor will I ever be.
