ATL White Party

The White Party - 10th Anniversary Edition

Sunday the 26th was the 10th anniversary of the Annual White Party by 5Friends4Life in Atlanta. With the VIP reception going from 5-7 you were able to mix, mingle, sip and see with some of everyone in the Atlanta social scene, with a reason. Each year The White Party benefits a charity in the Atlanta area, this year was no different just bigger and better!

If you were not there for the VIP the general admission started at 7, and a new party started lasting until midnight, opening up another section to the already huge venue the event was held at this year. 200 Peachtree made it hard to believe that there were over 2,000 people in attendance. With two different DJ's, VIP lounge, and Sponsor suites you didn't know who you were going to bump into next.

Everyone always comes to party, but the 10th Annisersary was made to feel a little more special than just another Atlanta party! R&B performance by Kyron Leslie, live bands, flash mob performances, female Impersonator performance, and models that left you in a zone…it was a party you would have wanted to be at!

If you missed out on The White Party don't worry you can still make up for it at the Annual Black Party which will be held in November, more details to follow @ 5Friends4Life.com

NYC becomes 6th state to allow Same-Sex Marriage

THE LGBT COMMUNITY HAS A RIGHT TO CELEBRATE. In a 33-29 vote, the bill for gay marriage's legalization was passed last night. Court Challenges are certain, but the state of New York makes it difficult for voters to repeal laws at the ballot box. According to the Huffington Post "Republican demands for stronger legal protections for religious groups that fear they will be hit with discrimination lawsuits if they refuse to allow their facilities to be used for gay weddings." Although there may be many challenges that lie ahead, the LGBT Community is making history!

Tracey Edmonds to Produce Film Version of 'Invisible Life'

Just in: Earlier today producer Proteus Spann was on the Da Doo-Dirty Show with Host DJ Baker and he announced that people who are interested in being apart of the film adaptation of the movie to send your resume, A picture of yourself and bio 2 proteus@INVISIBLELIFE.ORG below is the story from The Root on Tracey Edmonds and Proteus Spann will be producing the movie.

Courtesy of the http://www.root.com/

Those of you missing the work of the late novelist E. Lynn Harris have another way to connect with him. Tracey Edmonds of Edmonds Entertainment, and Proteus Spann of Proteus E2 Productions, have structured a multipicture deal to develop the extensive library of novels by New York Times best-selling author E. Lynn Harris into feature films.

The first production in this overall creative development deal will be E. Lynn Harris' blockbuster first novel, Invisible Life, which will be jointly produced by Edmonds Entertainment and Proteus E2 with Shelia Ducksworth, Glendon Palmer and Javon Johnson as co-producers. Screenwriter Ted Witcher (Love Jones) has been brought on to adapt the novel for the big screen.

Harris passed away two years ago but had already brokered this deal before his untimely death. Shortly after closing the deal over dinner in Hollywood, Harris died from a heart attack in his hotel room. Harris authored 10 consecutive New York Times best-seller books, and Invisible Life sold more than 1 million copies and is still in print 15 years after publication. Harris' novels were wildly popular for bringing issues like "down-low" behavior to the forefront and engaging discussions about sexuality.

Edmonds says about Harris, "E. Lynn Harris entrusted Proteus and myself with his dream of seeing his books translated into film. After his tragic passing, we are even more determined to see his dream become a reality. With his first blockbuster novel, Invisible Life, we begin the journey that millions of his fans have traveled."

Spann adds, "My dear friend E. Lynn was a man with an unshakable spirit and an unbreakable passion to inspire and change lives. He entrusted with me his vision and the responsibility to produce this American coming-of-age love story accurately through the lens of sensitivity in which it was originally created. This project is a must for his millions of fans. Because if we were all honest, we would acknowledge that we all live a portion of our lives 'invisible.' "

Terrance Dean's new novel "MOGUL" Officially Hits Stores Today. Marsha Ambrosius "Late Nights & Early Mornings" music video

This is why I love Marsha Ambrosius because of her positive messages in her videos. Get into her 2nd video off of her album "Late Nights & Early Mornings" off of her album which is entitled the same thing. Great PSA on HIV/AIDS prevention. Coming off the heels of her POWERFUL video for her first single "Far Away" where the message there was talking about bullying and the homophobic hatred some folks in this world have for people of the LGBT community.

New Book: "For Colored Boys Who Have Considered Suicide When The Rainbow Is Still Not Enough" By Keith Boykin

New York Times bestselling author Keith Boykin has signed a contract to produce a new book, "For Colored Boys Who Have Considered Suicide When The Rainbow Is Still Not Enough".
The book will be a collection of writings on "living life, confronting obstacles and believing in yourself," according to a statement on a new web site, 4coloredboys.com.

The book's title is derived from a famous 1974 choreopoem from playwright Ntozake Shange called For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When The Rainbow Is Enuf. Shange's work went on to inspire women of color for decades and last fall became the subject and title of a hugely popular Tyler Perry film.
Boykin noted that while the film was selling out movie theaters across the country, "young black gay men were literally committing suicide in the silence of their own communities." That experience motivated Boykin, an author of three published books, to collaborate with Magnus Books publisher Don Weise, who edited Boykin's last book, Beyond The Down Low.
The new book will respond to the crisis of youth development and suicide in the black community, according to Boykin, and more specifically among young gay men of color. Boykin acknowledges that some people think suicide is not an issue in the black community, but his web site cites a study published in April 2008 that found that young black men aged 13 to 24 were more likely to commit suicide than their white counterparts.
The site also mentions four young black males who committed suicide in recent years. The first, Carl Joseph Walker-Hoover, was an 11-year-old black student in Massachusetts who hanged himself after enduring months of harassment and anti-gay bullying. Another 11-year-old, Jaheem Herrera of Atlanta, took his own life after suffering constant anti-gay bullying at his Atlanta area public school.
The suicide cases were not limited to young boys. Last September, a black 19-year-old openly gay college student named Raymond Chase committed suicide by hanging himself in his dorm room. A month later, Joseph Jefferson, a 26-year-old black gay youth activist, took his own life. "I could not bear the burden of living as a gay man of color in a world grown cold and hateful towards those of us who live and love differently than the so-called 'social mainstream,'" Jefferson reportedly posted on his Facebook page the day he killed himself.
Boykin's new book comes on the heels of CNN News Anchor Don Lemon's announcement on Sunday that he is gay and is dedicating his new book, Transparent, to Tyler Clementi, a gay Rutgers University student who killed himself after a roommate secretly videotaped him with another man.
The conversation about suicide has taken on added significance in the African American community after R&B recording artist Marsha Ambrosius released a recent music video for her single, Far Away, which depicted a young black gay man who took his own life. The video has been played on BET and other networks.

Submissions for Boykin's book will be accepted from May 20 until July 20, 2011. The editors say they expect the book to include essays from "gifted writers, published authors and well known public figures," but they are also looking for college students, suicide survivors, and anyone who has faced bullying or harassment in their lives.

The book will be published in March/April 2012.

Official Noah's Arc Update: There will be NO 3rd Season;Spin-off likely

The last 24 hrs have seen alot of spculation and drama going on with Noah's Arc fans when the star of  Noah's Arc the show Darryl Stephens took to his personal facebook page to finally address the rumors and speculation of an slight possiblity that the show would indeed come back for a 3rd season on LOGO. Darryl had this to say on this past Monday; "Noah's Arc is over, y'all. There is no third season. (I've been getting lots of questions about that lately, so I figured I would address it one more time.) Go on about your business." and with this status update sparked alot of resentment from hardcore NA fans who were indeeda holding on to a little bit of hope for a 3rd season. Earlier today Darryl Stephens addressed the NA Fan Discussion Group to clarify monday's comments and said this: "Darryl never said "Fuck this group" or that he didn't "want to do the show anymore." So you know, the option of a third season hasn't been on the table since we got the word about the movie in 2007. There will never be a third season of Noah's Arc. I'm sorry if the truth upsets you or if my tone was too blunt (those of you who know me, know I don't sugar-coat shit or beat around the bush) but that's what we're working with. What IS a possibility and what this group is helping to make real is a SPIN OFF of Noah's Arc. Understand? There will be no third season. And on a side note... If you take things personally from people you don't know personally, you're bound to get your feelings hurt. I have nothing but love and respect for NA fans, which is why I went out of my way to clearly answer the constant question about the third season. No T, no shade. Now, GO ON ABOUT YOUR BUSINESS. ;)" and with this clarification finally brought closure to fans that indeed their would not be a 3rd season, but maybe a spin-off is in the works and from my understanding it would center around Noah and Wade characters played respectfully by Darryl Stephens and Jensen Atwood. And finally moment ago Director Patrik Ian Polk addressed NA Discussion Group anda had this to say "I see there's a lot of speculation flying around this page, so please allow me to set the record straight. Although it is true there will be no more "Noah's Arc" as we know it, the spin-off is still alive, script written & approved, just waiting for Logo to give it the greenlight. I'm told by the powers-that-be that the show will be up for consideration in September when all the MTV Networks execs convene to make their next round of programming decisions. So keep the faith, enjoy those reruns & dvd's...and please know that we all appreciate your support. Thanks!" So there you have it folks lets see what the folks at MTV do come September and see if indeed the spin-off is a go.
