Mama's Boy: (Episode #3) First Time

Sevyn Streeter - I Like It

After the quiet fizzle of Richgirl, the super girl group whispered to be "the new Destiny's Child", (they even borrowed choreographer Frank Gatson) Sevyn has been behind the scenes crafting songs for R&B stars Brandy ("Slower" from critically acclaimed Two Eleven) and Kelly Rowland (Keep It Between Us).

Finding a place under Chris Brown's CBE wing, Sevyn, recently inked a solo deal with Atlantic Records. The ink is barely dry and already we have "I Like It," a taste of her first official offering from her forthcoming CBE/Atlantic debut.

"I Like It" finds Sevyn assuring her lover that "we go through some things but I can't stop loving you." The single treads typical ride or die chick R&B territory over a breezy mid-tempo beat but Sevyn's voice soars above the simple lyrics. Her playfulness on lyrics like "if you call your man your boo and you like and love him too" is reminiscent of Beyonce.

Do you like it?

Something New and Different- Black Gay Cruise?

From the Desk of King in Miami Follow me on Twitter for the Latest in South Florida Haps..... I know, I know; its been a hot minute since I been on the blog. I took sort of a hiatus to priortize some things including hopefully the Grand Opening of my own club in 2013. Yes, I been a busy beaver! So, a few months ago I decided I needed a break from reality and one of my friends told me about Songmaster "Bi Gay And Lesbian Black Cruise". I was shocked to even find out that this type of cruise even existed. So I looked at their website www.bglcruising.com and decided to book the cruise. And once I told some of my friends I was going, it seems quite a few others were interested in going, too. So a small group of my friends from Orlando and Atlanta, will be joining the many others, in less than 25 days for a 7-day vacation to 4 port-of-calls in the Caribbean. They have several parties including a beach party in St Thomas, a Halloween party aboard the ship and other events. They even bring in their own DJ for the parties and meet and greets. I hear they stil have a few cabins available if you are interested in going. You can get more info at BGLcruising.com I will post pictures and commentary about the trip, of course, on AndresFlava. I am excited about this trip because it's something different and they have been doing this cruise for over 15 years now. I wish I knew about this before. I am looking forward to this vacation. I got my passport ready and my bags are soon to be packed. LET'S GO!

Andresflava Celebrates 7 yrs Blogging

The other day someone told me they looked up to me for my activism in the community and everytime i hear that I cringe because I try not to be "role model" nor do i believe I am.  I have been doin this now since 2005 and it never gets old to me, the way people choose to live their lives in this community. I am always the neutral person  who doesnt take sides, i guess that why folks come to me. Just earlier this more someone said i was a "celebrity" nope not I, dnt want that title. Just happen to be at the right place at the right time networking and meeting folks. I dont want the fame that some on these youtubers/bloggers seek. I just put out good vibes and energy and keep it moving. I support various events and bring my butt back home at the end of the day. Thank you all for following me these last  7 yrs I am truly humble and grateful to provide the information needed so you are aware of whats goin on in the world. I dnt do it for the money I do it for the people and I truly love doing this for all of you guys. I will do my best to keep you entertained and informed as best I know how too. Finding Me The Series IndieGoGo Campaign

Help Finding Me the Series come to fruition. Be a part of the movement. Join the IndieGOGO Campaign and make a contribution!  www.indiegogo.com/findingmetheseries

Finding Me the Series is a spin-off from the two independent films; Finding Me and Finding Me: Truth. Created by Roger S. Omeus Jr, produced by OmeProductions and distributed by TLA Releasing, this series will continue the story of a group of twenty-something’s and their journey of self discovery in an urban back drop.

We started this campaign because we need your help to continue creating dynamic, diverse and powerful stories. Without the financial backing of a network or distribution company, the ability to produce quality programming and reach a broad audience is impossible. Presently we are producing Finding Me the Series minisodes via YouTube - but these are breadcrumbs. We need the ability to make a serious pitch to a network by shooting a full and complete episode. This is where you come in!

Your contributions will allow us to shoot two full-length episodes, hire a proper crew including DP (Director of Photography, Camera Man, Sound/Boom Operator, Script Supervisor, PA’s (Production Assistants), Sound mixer, and an Editor. This is the equivalent of a skeleton crew of normal production, but at the moment, we don’t have this.

Our Impact

How many current original programs can you name that feature LGBT African-American characters to date? How many African-American characters that may appear on these television programs are presented with honesty, integrity and truth and exclude typical stereotypes associated with these groups? While stories in the world of Finding Me touch on universal themes of self acceptance, discovery, sexuality, relationships, love and understanding; what makes our project unique is that we spotlight these groups without these stereotypes. The LGBT and Heterosexual communities showcased in our stories present a realist portrayal that sets us apart from the majority of stories that we are used to seeing.

Our Track Record

First time filmmaker, Roger S. Omeus, Jr., gave birth to Finding Me and Finding Me: Truth which was picked up for distribution by TLA Releasing. It is rare that a filmmaker has their first two films distributed. From that point the film was screened overseas in the Grand Canary Islands, London and back to New York City. The films also won two Velocity Awards for best Supporting Actor (Eugene E. Turner) and Best Film. The follow up; Finding Me: Truth was then produced in 2009-2010 and obtained a worldwide distribution being screened in Boston MA, Houston TX, Atlanta GA and a two day theatrical release in New York City in 2011.

For Colored Boys Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Still Not Enough: Coming of Age, Coming Out, and Coming Home

The book comes out online on Aug 8 and in Bookstores on Aug 13....

Also on
Thursday, August 16, 2012 - Keith Boykin Book signing/reading Reception
Author Keith Boykin’s new book, For Colored Boys Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Still Not Enough, addresses longstanding issues of sexual abuse, suicide, HIV/AIDS, racism, and homophobia in the African American and Latino communities, and more specifically among young gay men of color. The book tells stories of real people coming of age, coming out, dealing with religion and spirituality, seeking love and relationships, finding their own identity in or out of the LGBT community, and creating their own sense of political empowerment. For Colored Boys is designed to educate and inspire those seeking to overcome their own obstacles in their own lives.

BMK will be hosting the official book release reception at The BMK Center from 6:30pm-8:30pm. (Invitation to come soon) The event will be limited to only the first 50 people who RSVP.  HIV testing offered, giveaways, Refreshments, meet and greet the BMK staff. You can get more info on the book and Keith Boykin here: http://www.amazon.com/Colored-Considered-Suicide-Rainbow-Enough/dp/1936833158 .
For more info, contact bmk@batf.net

The book was launched in the wake of numerous "young Black men literally committing suicide in the silence of their own communities" such as  Carl Joseph Walker-Hoover, Jaheem Herrera, Raymond Chase, Joseph Jefferson and others last summer. (From Rod 2.0)

This Anthology will have pieces from Rod McCullom, Darian Aaron, Jamal Brown, Topher Campbell, Wade Davis, Kenyon Farrow, L. Michael Gipson, James Earl Hardy, DeMarco Majors, David Malebranche, B. Scott, Rob Smith, Kevin E. Tayor, Craig Washington, Tim'm West, Nathan H. Williams and Emanuel Xavier. The anthology will include nine poems. In addition to Keith Boykin, the editors include young filmmaker Mark Corece and author/scholar Frank Leon Roberts. (From Rod 2.0)

In 1974, playwright Ntozake Shange published For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When The Rainbow Is Enuf. The book would go on to inspire legions of women for decades and would later become the subject and title of a hugely popular movie in the fall of 2010. While the film was selling out movie theaters, young black gay men were literally committing suicide in the silence of their own communities.

When a young Rutgers University student named Tyler Clementi took his own life after a roommate secretly videotaped him in an intimate setting with another young man, syndicated columnist and author Dan Savage created a YouTube video with his partner Terry to inspire young people facing harassment. Their message, It Gets Better, turned into a popular movement, inspiring thousands of user-created videos on the Internet. Savage's project targeted people of all races, backgrounds and colors, but Boykin has created something special "for colored boys."

The new book, For Colored Boys, addresses longstanding issues of sexual abuse, suicide, HIV/AIDS, racism, and homophobia in the African American and Latino communities, and more specifically among young gay men of color. The book tells stories of real people coming of age, coming out, dealing with religion and spirituality, seeking love and relationships, finding their own identity in or out of the LGBT community, and creating their own sense of political empowerment. All Black Kings Go To Heaven Documentary

Hey folks NEED YOU to SUPPORT my good friend Ricky Day as he launches his new project " All Black Kings Go To Heaven" below is more info on it and how you can help. Thanks a bunch guys...

What if those ads you see for American lifestyle apparel brands were more diverse? What if you could see young men of color in a setting other sports, music and the evening news?

My name is Ricky Day. I'm a New York based visual artist and photographer. I believe that self is a performance and that notions of self are developed in direct relationship to the images and information provided to us via the media, religion & our respective peer groups and families. I am interested in exploring & examining the power of fine art & pop-culture to inform the development & performance of self while demonstrating the transformative power of change.
In my portrait series All Black Kings Go To Heaven (ABKGTH), I use a commercial fashion inspired photographic portrait style & mock ad campaign to examine the objectification of the black male & its effects on the performance of self as well as to celebrate the beauty, humanity & strength of men of African descent. This series incorporates still photography, works on paper, video and paintings.
Your support will help me to create a body of work that looks and feels like advertising campaigns for major brands, but with an important twist, men of color and their dreams and aspirations will be it's subject.

We need your financial support to help make this project a reality

The project consists of large scale photographic portrait prints that look and feel like advertisments and in-store display images, a video, and a pop-up exhibit! Your generous donations will assist me in creating a body of work that will enrich lives and changes perceptions.
Your support for the project will be rewarded with unique perks that include personal thank you's on the project website, limited edition prints, promotional items and even sitting  for a professional photoshoot with yours truly!
If we don't reach our entire fundraising goal, this project WILL be completed and exhibited. It simply means it will be scaled back a bit in terms of it's scope! We are committed to creating and sharing this work with the world.

The Impact

Your contribution will make a difference in several ways:
  • You will help me to change our collective conditioning and to alter the perception of young men of color in a way that empowers them to live up to their full potential and inspires the rest of us to focus on what we have in common as opposed to our differences.
  • You will help me to create works of art that reveal beautiful truths about who we are as human beings
  • You will help me to provide a wonderful new perspective from which to view young men of color.

Other Ways You Can Help

Not everyone can contribute, but that doesn’t mean you can’t help:
Remember Indiegogo has some pretty powerful share tools! Use these to spread the word to your family, friends, co-workers and to attract others who'd like to support the project! Help me to make a difference in our collective lives by empowering and celebrating our youth.
Thank you.
Ricky Day

"Dear Dad" Documentary

What is "Dear Dad,":

“Dear Dad,” is a documentary that peeks into the lives of your friends, brothers, cousins, co-workers, sons, and uncles. You'll meet 10 diverse same gender loving men living in "Black Gay Mecca"; Atlanta, GA. “Dear Dad,”aims to give same gender loving men a platform to tell their varying yet universal stories about their relationship with their father and how it has shaped them as men. We'll meet these men, learn a little about who they are and what they do. Then, we'll delve into their relationship with their father (good, bad or indifferent). They'll read their "Dear Dad," letter and decide if they will send the letter to their father. A follow up project entitled "Dear Son," will be produced for those who decided to send their letters.

Can You Feel What I’m Saying? by:James Earl Hardy

Message from J.E.H: “Can You Feel What I’m Saying?”, my first short story collection, will be released in September. Will be posting an excerpt and other info shortly!

The Back Cover Copy:
“Whether it’s the maintenance man making a much needed house call (Booty, By Jake), a 40-year-old “born again” virgin falling in lust with his 20-year-old former student (How Stanley Got His Back In Groove), a porn star trying to stay aroused–and awake–while filming his final movie (The Last Picture. Show.), or a blind man proving that sight isn’t a prerequisite for bringing another pleasure (Can You Feel What I’m Saying?), Hardy serves up seven scandalous tales, imbued with his trademark mix of politics and passion, that are guaranteed to turn you on–and off.”
