Andresflava Looks Back at 2010

The year 2010 has been an emotionally filled rollercoaster of an journey but i am glad to see the year come to a close once again and again I survived the mayhem which was 2010.  In March I lost my father and even though my dad has never been apart of my life, it was still an emotional adventure for me because I have been able to sort of grasp the knowledge that he wasnt coming around because well I dont honestly know the reasoning for him not coming around, but i knew he was alive. Now he is gone and to never return again. I delt wit that the best way i knew how too. The expierence left me depressed for a few weeks because i just couldnt fathom not having a father anymore and regardless if he wasnt in my life he was still my father in my eyes. So i have been dealing with his death as best I could and pressing forward.
In April I started classes at Strayer University where i am now a Business Administration Major and has been interesting being back in school after all these years but its been a good feeling to be back in the classroom.

June saw me take part in the NYC Pride weekend for the second year in a row and this was an even bigger honor as i was able to walk in the gay parade and walk along 5th Avenue and thru the village with the gays and be happy and proud. I walked with the GLO TV Float. As many of you have been hearing for months GLO TV is the new Urban LGBT Network which was launched back in Sept. http://www.glotvnetworks.com/

September saw me take my first international trip out the country for the first time as I took part in INFERNO DR on the resort of Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic which took place during the Labor Day Weekend. It was an amazing and refreshing weekend and I was so glad to take part in the weekend If you want to attend INFERNO DR please log on to http://www.infernodr.com/ Inferno is goin on its 3rd year and takes place this year Sept 1-5 so hurry up and go book now.

November same me come back into the HIV/AIDS community after a close to 3 year hiatus employment wise i am now a part-time HIV/AIDS outreach worker for the National Association for People With AIDS and its a good feeling to be back helping my community. Novemeber also let me reunite wit my family during the Thanksgiving season, in the wake of the death of my father, it brought me and my mother closer and thats a great thing. Thanks to my mom for helping to be there for my father in his dying days even thought she did not have to be.

So as I wrap up 2010 and take with me into 2011 all the positives and leave behind the baggage. I see so many new and amazing things that will happen for me this year. And that I am thankful for life.

In closing there a few people I want to thank for making 2010 a little bit easier for me. I want to thank my mom for being their for me as well as my family. I would also like to thank my friends who made me laugh when i needed to laugh. Lonnell Williams, Jeff Gantt, Ronald Mcdonald-Thomas, Tron Majette, Vance Gleton, Devontae White, Trent Jackson, Darvin Williams, Keith Barbee, J Omarr Tutler, Anthony Anderson, Maurice Jamal, Derrick L. Briggs, LastO,BryN't, The Cast of Anacostia the Web Series, Xem Van Adams, Adam Benjamin Irby, BadIlisho, Dyari,Seanmichal Rodgers, Allen Simms, Kenneth Jones, NAPWA, Dr. Leo Wilton,DJ Baker, Darian Aaron, Derek Middlebrooks, so many others I say thank you for being a friend....

RIP To The Legendary Teena Marie

Lady T March 5, 1956 - December 26, 2010

With so much going on with the holidays and this damn snow on the east coast it was a hard pill to swollow as news that Teena Marie had passed and facebook chargers like my self would not buy this news due to no articles or confirmations from Cnn,E news etc. However it was Philly's station WDAS that was the first to report the news. I wouldn't believe such but after a few hours a Confirmation was issued through the Huffington Post that the news was true Teena our "Lover girl" had passed on at 54 years old.

Born Marie Christine Brockert, Teena Marie rose to prominence in the late 70s and 80s, striking a musical and personal partnership with funk legend Rick James. She released 13 studio albums, six of which went platinum on the US R&B chart. Two of her albums went platinum, and six altogether were gold.

Marie's biggest hit came in 1984 with her single 'Lovergirl,' which peaked at number four on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

As I sat back and remembered one of my favorite Teena Marie songs all I could do was dance becuase of All things Teena Marie she made it very clear she was all about her music and that she was NOT one to be messed with in her hay day Lady T. sued Motown for back pay while she was recording albums with that company which opened the gate for many artist to get the money they were due... Work Lady T. You are already missed however with one of the loves of your life we still hold your music to our hearts and Facebook is packed with Pics and Music and thats how it will always be....

Senate blocks repeal of 'don't ask, don't tell'

Senate Republicans have blocked legislation that would have repealed the military's policy of "don't ask, don't tell" and allowed gay troops to serve openly.
Democrats failed Thursday to cinch a procedural deal with Republicans in the waning days of the lame-duck session. The 57-40 test vote fell three votes short of the 60 needed to advance.
The vote ends months of political wrangling on the bill and makes congressional action on the repeal provision unlikely any time soon.

The 1993 law bans gay troops from publicly acknowledging their sexual orientation. A repeal provision was included in a broader defense policy bill and passed last spring in the House.

Bishop Eddie Long to settle Sexual Coerison charges???

Eddie Long I thought you said you were going to fight this in the courts?? this only proves your guilty! CNN's Anderson Cooper Reported last night that Bishop Eddie Long now wants to either settle out of court or going through mediation which means that what agreement is made will be kept private and we will never REALLY KNOW WHAT HAPPEN BETWEEN THEM! even thought he did in recent court documents confessed that everything the plantiffs have said thus far is true besides the sex which he stills denies.

Long is accused of luring at least four young men into sexual relationships and using church funds to give them cash, gifts and cars. The four men—Maurice Robinson, Jamal Parrish, Anthony Flagg and Spencer LeGrande—have filed sexual coercion lawsuits against Long and New Birth Missionary Baptist Church. Two of the four accusers have never met the others. Read the complaints HERE, HERE, HERE and HERE.  Info courtsey of Rod 2.0

The Makings of Mariam by Badilisho

It’s captivating from the first page to the very end! The Makings of Mariam will have you filled with so much emotion that once you are done reading the book you will be wanting more. The book has so many twists and turns, and it brings you full circle into the life of Mariam, and sadly enough…into the lives of so many people like Mariam. The book is 10 stars in my opinion and the author Badilisho did an amazing job. I cannot wait to see what he has next for us. Below is a sysnopsis of the book:

Mariam’s childhood subjected her to rape, teen pregnancy and unrequited love. She is a fighter, and most people hate the way she fights. You might not like her, but on this journey, you will come to know the makings of certifiable bitch!

Make sure to cop the book this holiday season as a gift by logging on to http://www.badilisho.com/

WORLD's AIDS DAY 2010: Remebering those we have lost to AIDS

I have been working in the HIV/AIDS arena for the last 7 years, from 2003-2007 I was an HIV/AIDS outreach youth worker in Ft. Lauderdale, FL working with youth between the ages of 13-24 who were HIV positive as well as those at risk for HIV/AIDS. After moving here to the nation's capital i have been out the field but still associate and help out the community when I can.  Starting today I will be working with NAPWA the National Association for People With AIDS one of the largest HIV/AIDS organization in the country which is located here in the Washington DC area as an HIV/AIDS Outreach worker and tester. I am glad i am back in the HIV/AIDS field after a 3 year hiatus because i love getting back into the community and helping folks.  Below is an interview i did with blogger Darian Aaron a few years ago get into it and visit his site http://www.loldarian.com/
