Dope the movie kicks off the American Black Film Festival June 11

Dope is a 2015 American comedy-drama film written and directed by Rick Famuyiwa and starring Shameik Moore, Tony Revolori, Kiersey Clemons, Blake Anderson, Zoë Kravitz, A$AP Rocky, Tyga, Keith Stanfield, Casey Veggies, Vince Staples, Chanel Iman and Rick Fox. The film was produced by Forest Whitaker and executive produced by Pharrell Williams and co-executive produced by Puff Daddy.

 in DOPE, Malcolm (Shameik Moore) is carefully surviving life in a tough neighborhood in Los Angeles while juggling college applications, academic interviews, and the SAT. A chance invitation to an underground party leads him into an adventure that could allow him to go from being a geek, to being dope, to ultimately being himself.

Taye Diggs to star as transsexual in Hedwig and the Angry Inch starting July 22 on Broadway

Taye Diggs is the latest actor to step into the high heels of transgender rocker Hedwig in the smash Broadway revival of Hedwig and the Angry Inch. He’ll make his Broadway return for the first time since appearing in Wicked in 2004, taking over in the role of Hedwig when Glee star Darren Criss exits the production on July 19. Diggs begins his 12-week run on July 22 at the Belasco Theatre.


Diggs’ Broadway credits include Carousel, Chicago, Wicked, and the original production of Rent. (He reprised his role as Benny in the 2005 film adaptation).

Lil Kim Announces New Reality Show [VIDEO]

The Hip-Hop legend uploaded a new video onto YouTube today (May 13) to let her fans know that she was shooting a reality show, tentatively titled The Queen Bee.

“It’s time for the Black Kardashian,” she stated with a shameless wink and a smile. “Anything I do, just has to be big and I’m gonna take you guys on that journey with me and I’m so excited about that.”

Believe it or not, this isn’t Kimmy Blanco’s first entry into the reality show realm. In 2005 when she was set to do a year-long bid in prison for perjury, BET chronicled her last two weeks as a free woman in a show called Countdown to Lockdown. A decade later, the 39-year-old MC has new topics to detail in her life such as motherhood, getting back in the game for good, touring, etc.

All 6 police officers have been charged in the death of Freddie Gray

Baltimore City State’s Attorney Marilyn J. Mosby announced the office has probable cause to file criminal charges against Baltimore Police officers in the death of Freddie Gray. The announcement was made Friday morning, the day after the SAO received the police department’s file on its investigation into Gray’s death. Giving details on the arrest, Mosby said the officers "failed to establish probable cause for Mr. Gray's arrest" and "illegally arrested Mr. Gray." The charges against the six officers include involuntary manslaughter, assault, misconduct in office. A warrant was issued for their arrest Friday morning.

Philly Weekend 4/23-26

I arrived in philly at noon on Thursday, and hop off the bus and across the street was the liberty bell it was my first extended trip to philly since 2011 according to foursquare and I told myself that today would be set aside to sight see, which i did. After leaving the liberty bell, i checked into the Apple Hostel it was my first time staying in a hostel and didn't know what to expect but i had heard great things from my friend darnell, who usually stays in them when he travels so i figured why the hell not and it was where i needed to be since all the festivities were close to the hostel. I check in a put my stuff in storage since my check in wasn't until after 2pm and walked to love parkland took that in and from there walked over to philadelphia museum of art, where the Rocky steps and Rocky Balboa statue is located and it was fun to feel like i was in the rocky movie running up the steps, lol. Friday was the Penn Relays at University of Pennsylvania which was good to see some track and field, I just hate that the weather was cold and windy which allowed my stay short. Saturday the Philly Board hosted a Gentlemen's brunch at smoking' bettys and even though the environment was cool the food was cold, so i was unable to enjoy it as much as i would have liked.  After the brunch I went window shopping to kill time before the day party happening on the other side of town in old city. I must say the day party was the place to be i got to see everyone i needed to see all in one place.lol Sunday was brunch and on the bus back to nyc.
