Andresflava says Goodbye 2 DC and Hello to NYC

Well once again i am transitioning in my life for the better and i really thought that DC would be that place once I left South Florida on Dec 27, 2007 for DC at the time ending my relationship and moving to a place where I thought i could make a difference like I did in South Florida. Well that was not the case while in DC for me, Folks have said that I did but i honestly dont think I did while there and as of being in NYC for only 5 days I have accomplished alot those far and have already met alot of movers and shakers in the NYC arena. I will indeed cherish the bonds that I formed while in DC and I will look at the Good, The Bad and The Ugly in DC as yet another learning experience and step in my life as I continue to press forward and not stumble back.

Andresflava celebrates Black History Month

Ruth Graves Wakefield (1905-1977) invented chocolate chips (and chocolate chip cookies) in 1930. Wakefield ran the Toll House Inn in Whitman, Massachusetts. Her new cookie invention was called the "Toll House Cookie." Her original cookies used broken-up bars of semi-sweet chocolate. Her cookbook, "Toll House Tried and True Recipes," was published in 1940.

The potato chip was invented in 1853 by George Crum. A African American chef. French fries were popular at the restaurant and one day a diner complained that the fries were too thick. Although Crum made a thinner batch, the customer was still unsatisfied. Crum finally made fries that were too thin to eat with a fork, hoping to annoy the extremely fussy customer. The customer was happy and potato chips were invented!

The Jackson 5ive was a Saturday morning cartoon series produced by Rankin/Bass and Motown Productions on ABC from September 11, 1971 until September 1, 1973; a fictionalized portrayal of the careers of Motown recording group The Jackson 5.

Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids, an animated series created, produced, and hosted (in live action bookends) by comedian Bill Cosby. He also provided voices for many of characters, including Albert. The show premiered in 1972 and ran until 1985. Based on Cosby's remembrances of his childhood.

  • Rapper Jay-Z allegedly developed his stage name as a reference to New York's J/Z subway lines that have a stop in his Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn, neighborhood.

  • Martin Luther King, Jr. was stabbed by an African-American woman in 1958 while attending his book signing at Blumstein's department store in Harlem. The next year, King and his wife visited India to study Mahatma Gandhi's philosophy of nonviolence.

  • As a child Muhammad Ali was refused an autograph by his idol, boxer Sugar Ray Robinson. When Ali became a prize-fighter, he vowed never to deny an autograph request, which he has honored to this day.

  • Ella Fitzgerald had a three-octave range — a range greater than most professional Opera singers.

  • Famed guitarist Jimi Hendrix was known by close friends and family members simply as "Buster."

  • Louis Armstrong bought his first coronet at the age of seven with money he borrowed from his employers. He taught himself to play while in a home for juvenile delinquents.

  • Due to his acclaimed "Banana Boat" song, most people assume Harry Belafonte was born in the Caribbean; in fact, the internationally renowned entertainment icon and human rights activist was born in Harlem, New York.

  • Before becoming a professional musician, Chuck Berry studied to be a hairdresser.

  • Legendary singer James Brown performed in front of a televised audience in Boston the day after Martin Luther King, Jr. was assassinated. Brown is often given credit for preventing riots with the performance.

  • Female science fiction author Octavia Butler was dyslexic. Despite her disorder, she went on to win two Hugo awards and two Nebulas for her writing.

  • The "King of Pop," Michael Jackson, co-wrote the single "We Are the World" with Motown legend Lionel Richie. The single became one of the best-selling singles of all time, with nearly 20 million copies sold and millions of dollars donated to famine relief in Africa.

TBS show Are We There Yet? tackles gay story line

On the TBS sitcom, “Are We There Yet?” They recently tackled the issue of a semi-closeted gay football player named Cedric played by Maxx Brawer  (full episode below). The football player was kind of leading on the daughter, who didn’t know he was gay. This prompted her concerned father to talk to the boy about coming out to his daughter. The father didn’t judge the boy, just warned him that not coming out would hurt his daughter which led the boy to come out to the daughter.

Help Bring Back The DL Chronicles

Hey folks lets bring the show The DL Chronicles back that got lots of folks wagging their tongues and was very successful in the pride circuit back  in 2008 as well very successful  run on the Here! Network with their 4 episodes. Below is the Behind The Scenes look at this hot show. Also below is an open letter from the creators of the show.

Help The Return of The DL Chronicles - ALL NEW
Dear Friends,

As many of you may know, The DL Chronicles was indefinitely cancelled from its cable TV Network home after its first, very successful, award winning television run.

You may recall rumors or have read announcements of a second season in 2009 that never surfaced. Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond our control, that second season was never produced.

We are sorry to have left our audience anticipating the many stories we had left to share. However, we are looking forward to bringing The DL Chronicles BACK in 2011/2012!

Our voices won't be silenced by unfortunate circumstance.

SO WE ARE ASKING OF YOUR HELP - the people who made it what it was.

OUR GOAL

Our goal is to gather up to 1 Million supporters of the show, in a grassroots effort to show our strength in numbers. The DL Chronicles has been seen across the globe, Canada, UK, France, Germany, Korea, South America, and more.

HOW CAN YOU HELP?

One of the ways you can help the return of The DL Chronicles is by simply recommending our Facebook Page to your friends.http://www.facebook.com/thedlchronicles

Go to The DL Chronicles page and click “Suggest to Friends” under the profile pic on the left. Then add the friends you want to recommend.

You can also SHARE the page on your WALL with a personal note about how The DL Chronicles affected you.

We are excited and ready to bring you ALL NEW stories - stories that educate, entertain, scintillate, inspire, and CHANGE.

Sincerely,
Quincy LeNear & Deondray Gossett

Andresflava celebrates Black Gay History Month

Yes today starts Black History month but I want to take the time to celebrate the Black Gays who have shaped this country in so many ways and i will be profiling several through out this month as we take a moment to celebrate our history. So today we look at Bayard Rustin.

Black History Fact: Openly Gay Black Activist Bayard Rustin brought MLK JR to Gandhi's non-violence resistance philosophy and was the visionary and orchestrator of the March on Washington, he also was key to form ties with white Jews to fund the movement so when people were arrested, he could quickly bail them out and continue the movement.

1 on 1 with Motivational Speaker/Out Music Rapper Kaoz

2 weeks ago while at the NASEM Conference in NYC i had the opportunity to sit down and interview out music rapper Kaoz and we talked about everything from sex, love, life and so much more get into the in the interview below.
